Do you ever have the thought “who is waiting for me?” Chances are that your silent, inner child is then at the controls in your life.
It is essential to respectfully connect with the quiet, inner child that resides within all of us.
Langston Kahn, author of Radical Transformation, offers insight into how to do this through self-inquiry.
When we first encounter the shy sides of ourselves, we often discover that we know very little about them.
Perhaps we have only a vague sense or blurred image of this younger version of ourselves. It is important to realize that this shy self has often been ignored or suppressed for a long time.
It often arose in situations where we withdrew and became quiet in order to survive in a world that overwhelmed us, or because that’s how we received the most love.
The silent child longs to be heard and seen, to finally have a voice. We often have a lot of judgment about ourselves and the parts that don’t really serve us (we think), which is why we put it away deep down.
But parts we push away surface at times when it is not so convenient. You then do not follow your heart, your dreams, because they are still living from their fears.
Engage in conversation with your quiet, insecure child …
Here are some questions and steps you can consider to understand and heal the fear or reticence of the silent part of yourself:
- Can you show me why you feel this way?
- Who are you at this age?
- What are you trying to accomplish with this behavior?
- What would happen if you let go of this function?
- How does this behavior help you now in adult life?
- Is this behavior still necessary, or is there another way to achieve the same thing?
- What would you have wanted to happen at that time? Imagine that.
- What does this part of you need? Give it what it needs, from your heart.
In my own experience and in my work with others, I have found that these parts of ourselves are often a bit timid, and sometimes can even be an angry one about having been ignored for so long.
Using SoulCollage® for connection and healing …
If you are familiar with the chakras, you know that the throat chakra is a powerful energy center for self-expression and communication. Here you can find your wounded, silent child-that part of us that was afraid to express itself and that lost its voice in moments of vulnerability.
When we try to address the fear or discomfort of this shy child directly, without first understanding what it feels and why, we risk crossing the same boundaries as the adults or influences that once caused this silence.
SoulCollage® is great for connecting with and listening to your quiet child. SoulCollage® gives more self-insight, self-love and creates more inner balance.
Make a SoulCollage® card for your silent child
By making and reading a SoulCollage® card, you can become aware of how these old wounds still affect our current communication and self-expression. You too can create a SoulCollage® card about this part of yourself. Use images that resonate with this part of you-images that express silence, restraint, and perhaps the pain of not being heard.
Then take time to work with this card, hear its voice, and feel what this silent child wants to tell you. This is where you can use the “I am the one” process of the SoulCollage® method.
